Sponge Bob is a popular cartoon character among children and adults. You do not have to purchase an expensive costume in a retail store. Create your own Sponge Bob costume using a box and some paint and you or your child will be the envy of the party guests.
Simple Concept
A large moving box will work best as this will be the majority of your costume. A yellow long-sleeved shirt and yellow tights are great for covering your arms and legs. You want to look completely yellow, just like Sponge Bob. Acrylic paint works best for painting the box with the details on Sponge Bob's face. Have a picture of Sponge Bob handy so you can copy his face onto the box. Your costume will be finished off with white knee socks and black shoes.
Outfitting the Box
You will be able to wear the box by turning it upside down and cutting holes for your head and arms. Sponge Bob is yellow so the majority of the box will be painted yellow. Sponge Bob does wear clothes so paint his clothes on the box. If you do not want to paint his outfit, glue felt to the box. Sponge Bob's outfit is simple; brown pants, white shirt and red tie is all he ever wears.
Face
Use the acrylic paints to paint the face on the box, copying a picture of him (see References). Add the signature two teeth to his mouth. You can draw his face with great detail or keep it simple. Paint his eyes bright blue and add three eyelashes to each eye. Big googly eyes will work just as well and you can purchase those from any local craft store. If you are not good at painting, blow up a picture of Sponge Bob's face and glue it to your box.
