Advertise With Postcards

Businesses of any size can get a good return on a small investment by advertising with postcards. They can be quick and easy to print in-house and, when utilized properly, can build customer loyalty and retention.


Instructions


1. Your first consideration should be your mailing list. The best approach is to build a list of your customers by simply asking for address information at the point of purchase. If there is a specific reason why this may be difficult for your particular business, develop some sort of incentive for your customers to offer their address, such as a valuable coupon or discount. If neither of these methods are appropriate, you can purchase a mailing list from a mailing list service, although these may be very expensive.


2. Determine the message of your postcard. Rather than send a simple self-promotion, use postcards to advertise a specific sale, invite customers to come back with an included coupon, feature a new product or service or promote something else that is time-sensitive. When writing copy for your postcard, use as few words as possible and keep it simple.


3. Use your graphic design software to design your postcards. Be sure to set up your page as stipulated in the packaging for your perforated postcards; it usually features four postcards on one sheet. Be sure to create image files for both sides of your postcard, with one side containing the bulk of your text and the other containing your return address and logo. Leave room for the address label in your design.


4. Print your postcards and mailing address labels. Attach mailing labels and postage to each card. Check with your local post office for the current postcard mailing rate. Postage on postcards is cheaper than first class stamps.
