With live grass growing inside your Easter basket, all you need to add are a few chocolate eggs and you'll have a creative centerpiece for your holiday table. This simple-to-create project takes a few weeks to grow, so get an early start. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Line an Easter basket with a plastic garbage bag. The plastic liner will prevent water and soil from soaking through the basket.
2. Fill the lined basket with potting soil.
3. Trim away the excess plastic from around the rim of the basket.
4. Water the soil-filled basket. Allow it to drain for several hours outside.
5. Sprinkle kitty grass seed over the surface of the damp soil. Kitty grass seed is typically available at pet stores. If you can't find it, use oat, wheat or lawn grass seed instead.
6. Place the basket in a sunny, warm location for fastest germination.
7. Mist the seed with a water spray bottle daily, until it begins to sprout.
8. Water the sprouted grass when the soil feels dry on the surface. Continue to water for about three weeks, after which you should have a basket of fresh grass.
9. Add real or chocolate eggs to your Easter basket after the grass has grown.
