Adjust Sights On A Smith & Wesson 40cal M&P

The Smith & Wesson M&P .40-caliber handgun comes in a variety of sizes from a compact "carry-concealed" pistol to a full-sized pistol designed for use as a primary sidearm. As with many firearms, the rear sight on the M&P .40 models is adjustable, though only for "windage"--which is left-to-right movement. The rear sight cannot be adjusted for vertical differences.

Instructions

1. Loosen and remove the set screw in the center of the rear sights with your screwdriver. Not all models are equipped with a set screw, so ignore this step if there is no screw on your handgun.

2. Set the tip of your brass punch or drift against the side of the rear sight, near the center.

3. Tap the butt of the punch with your hammer to adjust the rear sights to the right or the left. If your pistol needs to shoot more toward the left, tap the sight to the left. Tap the sight to the right if the situation is reversed.

4. Tighten the set screw with your screwdriver.
