Create Photo Bithday Invitations

There are many components to planning a birthday party. One of the most important parts is sending out the invitations. The invitation is the first glimpse your guests will have of the party. Creating special invitations is essential. Add a photo to personalize them. You can do this easily by using a photo printer and photo paper. The design of your invite is completely up to you. Try creating your own birthday invitations. You may find yourself making them year after year. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Open up a Microsoft Office Word document on your computer. Some people have Microsoft Office Word installed on their computer. If you do not, visit OpenOffice.org to download it's equivalent. It is completely free to use.

2. Decide on the layout of your birthday invitation. You can set the page to either a portrait or landscape setting. Portrait setting means the invite will lay vertical, whereas a landscape setting means the invite will lay horizontal. Choose a page set-up setting before you do anything else. There should be a "page setup" or "page layout" button somewhere on the screen. Click this button to set your page.

3. Insert your photo. Find the "insert" button and click on it. This will open up a window where you can browse and find the picture you want to insert onto your birthday invitation. Click on the picture, then click the "open" button. The picture should show up on the blank document on your computer screen. Move the picture by placing the cursor behind the picture and hitting the space bar or enter key. This works with Microsoft Office 2007. With OpenOffice, place the mouse cursor on the picture and hold down the right click button on your mouse to drag the picture. You can also change the size of the picture by grabbing a corner, using your mouse, and pulling out to make it bigger or in to make the picture smaller.

4. Add the birthday party invitation information. Every birthday invitation should include the date, time, location and a R.S.V.P. number or email address. Make a separate line for each bit of information. The information will look best if positioned to be centered on the invite. Use a font that will show up well. A larger font size and an easy to read font style will make the text easier to read.

5. Choose a background color for your birthday invitation. Click on "Page Color" on Microsoft Word or on the small paint bucket on Open Office. Choose a background color. Check to see that the font color and background are going to contrast enough for the font to be legible. A background color will add a splash of interest to your birthday invitation. Try incorporating the birthday theme into your invitation. For example, if you are throwing a pool party, use an aqua blue background color.

6. Print out a test page. Use a photo printer with photo paper to get the best quality possible. Allow the ink to completely dry before removing the invite. If you are happy with the invitation, print out as many as you need. If you want to spice up your invites, paste a few scrapbook embellishments onto the invitations. You could also use a hole punch that punches out decorative designs on your invite. You can find hole punches that create hearts, stars, animals or flowers.
