Build A Bbq Pit

There's a classic Simpons episode where Homer tries to make a backyard barbecue pit, but instead destroys the pit in a rage because he can't do it. While Homer ends up becoming an artist because of that, the rest of would just end up very hungry for barbecue. Don't be a Homer, and make this pit instead. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

build a basic barbecue pit

1. Dig the hole. You want to go at least three feet deep and three feet wide, but feel free to go bigger if you think you will ever do a whole pig.

2. Make a cover out of wood or scrap metal. It needs to be slightly bigger than the whole pit itself. Basically make a box that can cover the pit -- somewhat akin to the top of a grill. Put a handle on it so it is easier to move while cooking.

3. Fill the hole with wood chips -- preferably cedar -- to about one foot from the top of the hole. This will serve as your furnace. Some people line the sides with bricks to keep the dirt from falling during cooking.

4. Put a wire rack on top. This will serve as your grilling area.

5. Place the cover on the hole, and you have a barbecue pit.
