You can decorate an Indian Village cake with just a few simple items.
Decorating a cake with an Indian village theme can be a creative idea for a child's birthday party. Some bakeries and craft stores carry decorative cake kits with the necessary items such as Indians and tepees already in the kit. However, it is possible to make your very own Indian Village cake with just a few items from the toy store and a little bit of imagination. Add this to my Recipe Box.
Instructions
1. Bake the cake according to the package directions and allow it to completely cool. Place the cake platter on the top of the cake pan and turn it upside down to remove the cake. You may need to run a butter knife along the edges of the cake pan first to loosen the cake.
2. Mix 3/4 of the white frosting in a small bowl with a few drops of green food coloring. Stir completely and keep adding more green coloring until the color resembles grass. In another small bowl, mix the remaining white frosting with a few drops of blue food coloring. Stir completely, adding more blue food coloring if necessary until the color resembles blue water.
3. Frost the majority of the cake with the green frosting using a spatula to smooth it. Leave a 2-inch strip at one end. Frost the 2-inch strip with the blue frosting. This forms a stream for your Indian village. You can use a butter knife to make little dips in the frosting to resemble ripples. Place small brown decorative stones along the sides of the stream for a more realistic appearance.
4. Buy an Indian village decorative kit at your local bakery. These kits contain items such as an Indian figure, horse figures and tepees. If you can't find a pre-made kit, you can purchase bag of small plastic Indians, horses and animals at most toy stores. You can also make your own tepee by gluing together four Popsicle sticks at the ends and covering them with a piece of brown felt.
5. Position your tepee in the center of the cake. Place the Indian and horse figures around the tepee. Place plastic animals such as buffalo, deer and wolves around the stream.
