Host A Luau Party

Serve drinks with tropical touches.

Transport your guests to the Hawaiian islands with a luau-themed summer party. A luau celebrates the food, colorful culture and laid-back fun of an outdoor celebration. Invite family and friends, pass out the leis and say "aloha" to a festive get-together. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Set a budget. Determine the cost of food, decorations and entertainment, then stick to your party budget. Borrow dishes, chairs and tables, and tropical-themed accessories from friends and family. Shop for decorations at discount stores.

2. Make a guest list. Determine the amount of space and food you will need based on your guest list.

3. Buy and send invitations, or use a free online invitation service. Send luau-themed invitations to get your guests in the mood.

4. Buy leis and other tropical decorations. Look for fake palm trees, tiki torches, orchids, coconuts and grass skirts. Play beach- and island-themed music, or ask a friend who plays ukulele to provide entertainment.

5. Serve pupus -- Hawaiian for snacks -- and drinks with little umbrellas and wedges of pineapple. Roast a pig luau-style, accompanied by rice and lomi lomi salmon. Set out large bowls of tropical fruits served with frilly toothpicks. Serve foods in fake coconut bowls.
