Make A Tabletop Palm Tree

Turn fresh pineapple into a table topper.

Whether you are hosting a backyard luau or just want to give your party a tropical twist, a tabletop palm tree makes the perfect island centerpiece. Using cored whole pineapples gives the palm tree's trunk texture and gives you plenty of fresh pineapple to include on your menu. Your guests will enjoy sipping pina coladas next to this tabletop palm tree, guaranteed to give your party a warm beach feeling any time of year.

Instructions

1. Set the block of florists foam on your table top. Insert the two bamboo sticks upright in the foam, fairly close together.

2. Cut the top and bottom off of each pineapple with a very sharp knife. Discard the tops and bottoms.

3. Cut each pineapple into thirds. Remove the core of each pineapple third using the knife or pineapple corer. Set the cores aside to serve or eat.

4. Stack the cored pineapple rings on the bamboo sticks. Continue stacking until the pineapple rings cover the top of the bamboo.

5. Insert wadded up paper towels between the bamboo sticks and pineapple rings wherever the pineapple palm tree trunk appears unstable and to help the pineapple rings assume the shape of a palm tree trunk.

6. Poke the ends of either artificial or real large fern fronds into the top pineapple ring to make the palm tree's leaves.

7. Cover the florists block base with a tablecloth.
