A table skirt is a great way to cover an unsightly table, or provides a great storage space solution for smaller items such as books. A table skirt is like a table cloth, but it covers the table entirely and hangs to the floor so you can't see the legs of the table, or anything that may be sitting underneath the table. A table skirt can be loud and colorful, or a subtle addition to your décor, but either way can definitely add something to any room in your home.
Instructions
1. Measure from the floor up across the table, and then down to the floor on the other side. Add two inches to this length and you have the diameter of your table skirt.
2. Cut two lengths of fabric as long as the measurements you took from the table.
3. Cut one of the lengths of fabric in half lengthwise so that you now have three pieces of fabric.
4. Pin one of the smaller pieces of fabric to each of the selvedge edges (outside edges of the fabric that are not the frayed edges your cut) and sew the smaller pieces of fabric to the big piece.
5. Fold this now large rectangular piece of fabric in half, and then in half again, so that you have a small rectangle a quarter of the size of the original.
6. Place a pin the corner of the quartered fabric that has the fold (what would be the center of the cloth if the fabric was not folded).
7. Cut a piece of string to a length that is half the length of the diameter you determined in step one.
8. Tie one end of this string to your fabric chalk or marker, and the other end to the pin in the corner of the fabric.
9. Pull the string taught, and draw a rounded line with the chalk or marker from left to right across the fabric, letting the string control the arc of your line.
10. Cut along the line you just drew, cutting through all the layers of fabric so that your fabric now has a rounded edge. Don't worry about making the line perfect, as this edge will become a hidden hem.
11. Unfold the fabric square, and then fold the frayed edge of the fabric in ¼ inch all the way around. Iron this folded section.
12. Fold the ¼ inch you just ironed another ¾ an inch, and pin it in place.
13. Stitch the folded edge in place all the way around so that you now have a hemmed table skirt.
