Give kids
two minutes to answer a quiz with 30 multiplication facts.
Help your kids remember multiplication facts with simple drills. Drills are the equivalent to practice sessions. With time and repetition your child will be able to quickly answer multiplication problems which will help her progress in school and later in life. The State of Victoria's Department of Education and Early Childhood Development states on its website tha t"mathematical progress will be hindered if they (children) do not have fluent recall of multiplication facts." Encourage your kids to memorize multiplication facts and correct their errors by drilling them at home.
Instructions
1. Use timed quizzes. Create short multiplication fact quizzes in a Word document or print pre-made quizzes from online sites. Give kids two minutes to complete the multiplication quiz. The drill has been successfully completed when all of the multiplication facts have been answered in the allotted time frame.
2. Provide computer games. Find different multiplication math games that teach basic math facts at online sites. One of the games is called "Basketball Multiplication Game" in which a player is one-digit whole numbers to multiply. When a problem is answered correctly, the player is given a chance to make a free throw. If it is answered incorrectly, a buzzer sounds, and the player is redirected to another multiplication problem.
3. Drill with flash cards. Buy or make flash cards and shuffle them. Show your child the flashcards and tell them to answer the multiplication fact on each card. Shuffle the deck of cards to make sure the fact is being remembered and not the order in which the card is shown. Each cycle through the cards, encourage your child to answer more quickly.
