You love the look of driftwood and think it would be a wonderful accent to your home. But you're wondering how you're going to find any in your landlocked state, with beach nowhere to be found. Even if your next beach trip is just a dream, you can bring the beach to your home by purchasing an inexpensive piece of driftwood. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Start your search for driftwood the next time you're at the ocean, but don't discount the driftwood that can be found on the beach of a large lake. Make sure you have public access to the area.
2. Look for driftwood after high tide or following a storm. Be sure to wear beach shoes to protect your feet from a variety of ocean hazards, including jellyfish and rusty nails.
3. Find driftwood washed up in piles of shells and other debris on the sand. You may have to dig and get dirty, so gloves and a bag are a good idea.
4. Comb the beach for driftwood in early morning or late afternoon. There will be less competition from other beachcombers, and the lighting may produce the right shadows to allow you to better see the driftwood in the beach.
5. Don't forget that the fall, winter and spring months are a great time to look for driftwood or other beach treasures.
6. Purchase a piece of driftwood at a shop if your efforts to find the perfect piece fall short. You can find a lovely specimen of driftwood for a reasonable price at a souvenir shop, florist's shop, aquarium supply shop or online retailer.
