Dress Up In A Disco Diva Costume

The disco ball was a ubiquitous symbol of the disco era.

The disco era took place in the 1970s. Disco is a genre of music that quickly became popular, especially in New York City. Dance clubs appeared all over the nation, and many recording artists such as the Bee Gees and Donna Summer skyrocketed in popularity. When many people hear the word "disco" they think of John Travolta in the movie "Saturday Night Fever." Infamous dance moves under a disco ball and polyester suits showed Americans that disco was not just about music, but about style and attitude.

Instructions

1. Find a skintight catsuit. A catsuit is a one-piece suit that stretches from your shoulders to your legs. Halter top catsuits with bell bottom legs were very popular in disco clubs. Look for leopard print, metallic and glittery suits.

2. Slip on the biggest pair of platform shoes you can find. Four-inch platforms were popular at the peak of the disco period. You can still find these today.

3. Find costume jewelry, which is a must if you are going for the disco diva look. Bigger is better, as with everything disco, so look for big beaded bracelets, large medallion necklaces and large hoop or dangle earrings.

4. Style your hair to flair out from your face. Use a large round brush to blow dry your hair outward. Add some curls to the rest of your hair and brush it out. Finish with hair spray.

5. Apply disco style makeup. Apply a foundation to even out your skin tone. Apply blue glittery eye shadow to your eyelid. Line your eyes with eye liner and apply mascara thickly to your eyelashes.
