Purchasing custom invitations can be expensive.
From weddings to baby showers, invitations are the accepted way to say "please join us for our special occasion." Purchasing custom invitations can be expensive, especially if they are printed on special paper or embossed. Invitations can be created with a home computer and printer.
Instructions
1. Decide how many invitations you are going to need. According to Buffalo Bride's website, every adult invited to a wedding should receive an invitation, even brothers and sisters currently residing with the bridal couple (couples can receive one invitation). For less formal events, such as baby showers, send an invitation that covers all people in the same household. Add a few extra invitations to the number in case you have late additions to the guest list.
2. Purchase the materials for your invitations. Many party supply stores offer invitation kits with graphics, embossing, ribbons and other features. These kits come ready for you to print out details, pack into envelopes and send. These are the easiest invitations to customize, but often are a more expensive option. If you are working with a limited budget, consider purchasing plain card stock and adding embellishments, such as ribbons and decals, on your own.
3. Word your invitations carefully, using an etiquette guide for the type of invitation you are creating. According to the Baby Cachet website, formal invitations should have the date and time spelled out, while the rules are more relaxed for informal invitations.
4. Create your invitations on your computer's desktop publishing program, taking care to read the format instructions that come with your invitation kit. When creating invitations on plain card stock you can choose to make them whatever size you wish. Keep in mind that if they are smaller then the sheets of paper you print them on you will have to cut them all to size.
5. Choose graphics from your computer's publishing program or look for invitation designs online that you can download for free. You can also choose to scan or upload your own photographs and drawings. Place these graphics as desired on your invitation sheets, using your program.
6. Print your invitations and add any embellishments to each one using crafter's glue or double-sided scrapbook tape. Be sure all glue is dried before you place them in the envelopes.
