Decorate Cupcakes For Birthday Parties

Treat a birthday celebrant to festive cupcakes.

Decorative and delicious cupcakes are the ideal way to honor a birthday celebrant. Birthday cupcakes are versatile because they can serve as table decor when displayed on a stand, and can also function as your dessert and guest favors. Vibrantly hued cupcakes will give the party a festive flair, while dainty pastel-colored treats will lend a sweet touch to the table. For a whimsical variation, make goodies that combine the look of cake and ice cream in one tasty treat. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Bake a batch of vanilla cupcakes in king-size white paper baking cups for super-sized treats. You can also make chocolate cupcakes instead of vanilla, depending on the honoree's preference. Allow the cupcakes to completely cool prior to decorating them.

2. Fill a pastry bag with white buttercream frosting. Place a 1M metal star-shaped tip on the pastry bag. Squeeze the frosting onto the cupcakes in a circular motion to create a whipped cream topping look.

3. Top the frosting with vibrantly hued or pastel-colored nonpareil sprinkles to resemble an ice cream shake or sundae. Disperse the sprinkles evenly over the frosting for a uniform look.

4. Place a maraschino cherry on the top center of each cupcake. Use cherry-flavored candy balls in place of the maraschino cherries if you prefer.

5. Insert a colorful candy stick in each cupcake at a slight angle to resemble ice cream shake straws.
