Host A Hawaiian Party

Aloha. That's how you welcome friends into your home when you throw a Hawaiian-themed party. Imagine the looks on your friends' faces when they find you've taken the theme and run with it. As long as you have the right food, decorations and a killer drink, you can throw an excellent Hawaiian-themed party. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Select invitations that have luau girls or palm trees on the front so your guests know in advance what to expect. Include a note that everyone is required to wear bright colors or Hawaiian clothing.

2. Look for party packs such as those available from the Oriental Trading Company. These contain cups, plates and sometimes even bowls or silverware with a Hawaiian theme.

3. Decorate your party space to look as kitschy and Hawaiian as possible. String up party lights, pick up hula girl statues and use plastic grass skirts to decorate your tables.

4. Purchase leis for your guests and place one around their necks as soon as they walk through the door. You can find inexpensive leis at most party supply stores and even some dollar stores.

5. Offer foods that you'd find in the islands such as fresh fruit, grilled fish, macaroni salad and of course rice. You can cap off a big dinner with fresh fruit served with coffee-flavored ice cream.

6. Host small contests throughout your party to see who wore the brightest shirt or best coconut bra, and let your guests vote on the winner. Treat the winners to small hula girl figures or their very own can of SPAM.

7. Play Hawaiian music in the background so your guests automatically get in the mood for some good old fashioned luau fun. You can even throw a luau contest to see which of your guests has the best moves.
