Custom Design Wedding Invitations

There isn’t a more appropriate time in your life to express yourself than on your long awaited wedding day. From the dress, to the cake, to the invitations, it is your time to shine and let people, the ones you love, know your true heart. The invitation helps set the mood for those who will witness your union. So what do you want to say?

Instructions

Custom Design Wedding Invitations

1. List who, what, when and where on your invitation. Only the first word of the invitation, proper names and date are capitalized. The reception information is set off from the invitation by an extra space. The information is double spaced and centered. This is the typical typesetting for an invitation; however with a nontraditional design this may need to be altered to flow with the design.

2. Choose a program to set up the invitation and a font. If you are using a commercial printer contact them for the program format they require and any special instructions. Most computer operating systems come with a multitude of fonts, and there are many to choose from on both free and commercial font sites. Choose one that is decorative but easy to read. Traditionally Copperplate by itself or with a script like Edwardian or Kunstler for the names has been used successfully over the years. Each year designers come out with simple and elegant fonts that can help give your invitation an updated look. Monotype Corsiva or Segoe Script are fonts that come with the Microsoft Word 2007 that look contemporary and are easy to read.

3. Choose a motif or border if you so desire; either one, not both to keep the design simple but elegant. A motif or border can be printed when the invitation is printed or you may select it when you chose specialty papers. If you chose a specialty paper make sure your font size and text area fit within the design. Allow ample space for margins. Commercial printers will want a half inch border all around the paper edge while specialty paper often come with templates that can be downloaded online from the manufacturer's site. These templates will help you keep a correct margin for the artwork selected.

4. Selecting a simple motif or border for a custom invitation can be done online; however, the best artwork for reproduction is vector art with an .eps or .wmf extension. Only high resolution graphic files will be accepted by a commercial printer. There are many commercial and free clip art sites on the Internet, but it may be worth your time and money to have a graphic designer find or create a motif or border for you.

5. Select paper and ink at the printer or stationary store where you are ordering your invitations. Linen or laid papers in white or ivory are the traditional choices, but in choosing paper and ink you have the opportunity to go beyond tradition and be yourself. You will want to have envelopes, reply cards and envelopes done with the same stock you chose for the invitation, typeset in the same font and printed with the same color ink.
