Customize Invitations From A Design

Whether you have access to a graphic design program or you download an invitation layout online, you can use any design as a starting point for creating custom invitations. Using a self-publishing or word processing program allows you to change items such as pictures, font styles and colors to customize invitations from a design. Adding embellishments, such as ribbons, rhinestones or charms, to printed invitations is another way to turn an invitation design into your own. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Search and review invitation designs. Look through self-publishing word processing or graphic design software and online websites that offer free invitation downloads for designs and styles you like.

2. Choose the design. Once you decide on which design you want to use, download it into or open it up in the program you're going to use to alter it.

3. Change colors. One way you can customize the invitation is to change the design colors to fit the colors you've chosen for your party. This may be border or frame colors or the colors of the font.

4. Choose font styles. Most software programs come with many different font styles to choose from. Rather than use the font style used in the original design, you can select all of the text you wish to change and choose the style you want to print on your invitation.

5. Add verse. Most invitation designs come pre-loaded with suggested verse. Change the names and party details to fit your party. You can even replace the entire verse (see Resource 1).

6. Add or change pictures. To change a photo or an object in the invitation design, replace it with your own photo or item you wish to have on the invitation.

7. Choose paper style. With many paper styles available, you can choose the type of paper you want to print your invitations on, which is another great way to make the invitation design your own. For example, you may wish to print your invitations on paper with dried flowers pressed into it or on pre-cut invitation grade cardstock from a local stationery store.

8. Add embellishments. You can also decorate your invitations with items such as adding a ribbon bow or gluing rhinestones to the design. It can add a personal touch and customize your party invitation so it looks different from others that may use the same design.
