Decorate A House For A Sweet 16

Decorations really liven up a 16th birthday party.

A Sweet 16 party isn't a cookie cutter event that's the same for every girl. The way your house is decorated shouldn't look like anyone else's decorations either. Get decorations to suit the theme -- movie nights should recall old, glamorous Hollywood and spa nights should be a soothing, relaxing oasis. Plan a theme, and the decorations will follow. A party isn't all about decorating, but the right look can help get every party-goer in the mood to have a great time. After all, what's a dance party without some flashing lights, balloons and a cleared-off dance floor? Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Choose a theme. Don't go with basic decorations when the party is more than basic. Selecting a theme early gives you plenty of time to choose your decorations.

2. Hang streamers and balloons on the walls if you're going for a basic party atmosphere. Gather streamers together and tie a bow around one end. Affix the bow to the wall with tape. One quarter of the way across the room, pin the streamers to the ceiling. Repeat at each quarter. The streamers should end up far apart from each other across the room. Repeat streamer hanging starting on the opposite wall. Add bunches of helium-filled balloons in corners, by windows and anywhere there's room that won't be occupied by a party-goer.

3. Choose wall-hangings that match the theme. If you're doing a Hollywood night, put up the Hollywood sign letters on large pieces of paper. Pictures of palm trees and waterfalls would work for a spa night. Change waterfalls to oceans, and you have a beach party.

4. Light the room appropriately. A dance party would be much better with an inexpensive strobe light or disco ball. A Hollywood party would benefit from snapshot lights and spotlights.

5. Create theme-appropriate centerpieces for buffet or dining tables. A Sweet 16 would be even sweeter with candy bouquets. Just take a small pot, fill it with wrapped candy and hard candy, then stick lolly-pops in to create a bouquet. They can even double as take home gifts.
