Instructions
1. Tint one 16-ounce tub of frosting blue with your food coloring. Start with three drops and add more for increased vibrancy. Cover the unfrozen cake with the tinted frosting. Place the frozen cake on top of the frosted cake with the trimmed side facing down.
2. Cut the shape of your pool about 3/4 of an inch deep into the top of the cake. Leave at least 1 inch of room around the edge. Choose to use a square, rectangle, crescent or round shape for your pool.
3. Cover the top layer of the cake in the blue-tinted frosting, making the sides blend together seamlessly.
4. Put both boxes of gelatin mix in a bowl and use only 2 cups of boiling water to prepare it. Place the bowl containing the gelatin into a bowl of ice cubes and water. Stir the gelatin until it begins to thicken, then pour the gelatin into the pool area of the cake. Place the entire cake in the refrigerator for two hours.
5. Tint 1/4 cup of frosting green and use your grass frosting tip to create a lawn around the pool area. Adorn your cake with any decorations appropriate to your cake recipient. Ideas include a toy water slide, animal crackers and fish shaped crackers.
