Design Your Own Luau Invitations

Design your own luau invitations instead of purchasing them from the store.

A Hawaiian luau generally allows guests to enjoy the warm weather. Before you can throw a luau party, you will need to send out the invitations to your guests. Whether the party is for a graduation, promotion or just for fun, you will need to send the invitation out at least four weeks in advance to give your guests plenty of time to plan accordingly. Depending on the formality of the party, you can design your invitations by hand or with the help of a word processing program on your computer. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Make an Invitation by Hand

1. Fold the card stock in half. Lay the card stock, portrait-style, on a flat surface and fold the top two corners down to the bottom corners.

2. Write all the important information inside the invitation. List the date, time, location and RSVP information on the bottom half. Include any important information such as games, contests and dress attire for the party.

3. Decorate the front of the invitation. Use markers, paint or stencils. Draw pineapples, palm trees, beaches and hula dancers to signify a luau theme. Make sure that you put a message on the front such as "You Are Invited," "We Are Throwing a Luau" or "Come Celebrate the Night."

Make an Invitation on Your Computer

4. Open a word processing program. Ensure that the size of the new document is 8 ½ by 11 inches.

5. Type the text in the bottom half of the document. Begin typing at the 5 ½-inch margin line to ensure that the card does not fold over the text. Include important details such as the date, time, location and RSVP information.

6. Feed the card stock into the printer, making sure it will print on the opposite side of the invitation. You may need to feed the card stock through manually.

7. Design the front of the invitation. Use clip art supplied with the word processing program, or find a website that offers royalty free clip art. You can also add your own pictures. Add a text box to include words on the front of the invitation such as "You're Invited to a Luau Party."

8. Print one invitation. Fold the invitation in half to see if everything lines up correctly. Then print multiple copies of the invitation out to send to your guests.
