Do Picture Cut Outs

Picture cutouts--sometimes referred to as embellishments or die cuts--are often used in scrapbooking. They are a creative and easy way to add color and excitement to a photo on a scrapbook page. You can find pre-made cutouts at the store, but by making your own you are not limited to what the stores offer and you can save money, too.

Instructions

Do Picture Cut Outs with Scissors

1. Select paper to use for your cutouts. Try to choose colors that complement the photos with which you will be using the cutouts.

2. Sketch an outline of the object or shape for the cutout. Keep in mind that you will need to cut around your drawing, so try to keep it simple and avoid narrow edges.

3. Cut carefully around your drawing. Cut slowly so that you don't have jagged edges.

4. Draw details on your cutout using markers.

5. Use the cutouts as desired to accent your photos and scrapbooking pages.

Do Picture Cutouts with a Machine

6. Purchase a die cut machine. These can be found at most craft stores. You may want to go online and check reviews of different machines to determine which is right for you.

7. Purchase design cartridges for your machine if needed. Most will require these, but some have designs programed in already.

8. Load paper into the machine by following the instructions that come with it.

9. Select the design you wish to use and the size. Follow the instructions for beginning the cut on your machine. Most will have a "Start" button.

10. Remove the paper from the machine once it has finished cutting and pop the designs out of the paper. Your die cuts are now ready for use.
