Draw A Cartoon Hibiscus Flower

Draw a Cartoon Hibiscus Flower

The hibiscus flower is a beautiful tropical flower, is the national flower of both Malaysia and South Korea, and is also the state flower of Hawaii. A popular and easily recognizable flower that is popular in summer decor and clothing, the hibiscus flower is both fun and easy to draw, especially in cartoon form.

Instructions

1. Get a picture of a hibiscus flower from the Internet or elsewhere as the inspiration for your cartoon hibiscus flower.

2. Start with a B or HB pencil for sketching and loosely outline the petals of the flower. In cartoon form, just draw five or six overlapping petals in a circle with a dent or divot on the outer rim of each tear-shaped petal.

3. Use the petals as your guide to create a lopsided circle in the center of the flower. Create similar divots around the edges of the inner circle to create the illusion of depth. This becomes the dark, inner portion of the hibiscus flower surrounding the filament and anther.

4. Draw a thin, tapering rectangle coming upwards out of the center of the flower and then draw a soft triangle at the tip of the rectangle. This becomes the filament and anther that stick up out of the center of the hibiscus flower.

5. Fill in the anther at the tip of the stalk with small semi-circles. Now, go back over your drawing with a 2B pencil to choose final lines and erase the lighter B or HB pencil lines.

6. Add depth and shading with a 4B pencil or simply add a bright color to the petals that fades into a darker shade of that color at the center of the flower. Then add color or shading to the cartoon hibiscus flower filament and anther using a bright yellow for the tip.
