Ile St. Louis sits amid the Seine.
The two most famous islands in the Seine River in Paris, France are the Ile de la Cite and Ile St. Louis. Ile de la Cite was the first settlement in Paris, founded by the Celt Parissi tribe in 250 B.C; thus the name Paris. Today, Ile de la Cite is dominated by Paris city government offices, such as the Hotel-Dieu hospital, courts, police, law buildings and the Notre Dame Cathedral. Unfortunately, there are no hotels on Ile de la Cite. The neighboring island, Ile St. Louis, is home to famous cafes, cobblestone streets, quaint shops and some of the most expensive residential real estate in Paris. Ile St. Louis is a popular place to stay in Paris because of its central location, quiet streets and stunning location surrounded by the beauty of the Seine.
