Hawaii Scrapbook Ideas

Just one the many serene images from the island of Hawaii.

The visual appeal of Hawaii is something to remember---so why not catalog your vacation in a colorful scrapbook? These layouts depict serene quiet beaches and cascading waterfalls found in private nooks and along hiking trails throughout the island. Take several pictures of family and friends enjoying the wonders of Hawaii such as dolphins, turtles and crystal-clear ocean waters.

Family Shots

Include plenty of family shots in your Hawaiian island scrapbook. If you went on vacation with your spouse, choose several photos of the two of you together posing in front of the ocean or tropical landscapes. Select plain colored or patterned card stock for your background. Island themes are easy to find. This type of card stock features topical plants, waterfalls and other island treasures.

Only choose patterns and colors that complement your photos. For instance if you are wearing a blue shirt in one photo select a patterned background with blue Hawaiian flowers. Include one to three photos on each page. Enlarge some photos to create variety throughout your book. For instance, feature a large five-by-seven photo on one page and three four-by-six photos on another page. Decorate empty space with embellishments and items you've collected from the island such as dried flowers, sand or seashells.

Plants and Animals

The island of Hawaii is abundant with plants and animals that you don't normally see on a daily basis. Take photos of your favorite plants and animals while on vacation. Use chip board letters to spell titles for your pages. Chip board is colorful thick card letters found at the craft store. These letters are raised so they pop off the page. Title the page according the pictures selected. For instance, if you are featuring pictures of dolphins, spell out the type of dolphin on the top of the page. Your title can say something like "Swimming with Bottlenose Dolphins".

Journal Writing

Every scrapbook features journal writing on several pages throughout the book. Journal writing tells a story with creative expressions and thoughts of what you were feeling that day. Write in your journal while on vacation and transfer this information into your scrapbook when you get home.

You can write directly on available space if you chose plain light colored card stock for your background. However, if you selected pattered card stock, cut out a piece of white or yellow paper to resemble the outline of a Hawaiian flower and write your journal in this space. Make other outlines of geckos, dolphins and butterflies to use as templates for more journal writing on different pages.
