Hawaiian Theme Party Activities

Show guests make leis out of real flowers.

Hawaiian theme parties bring friends and family out to enjoy the warm weather, but consider get them on their feet and having fun together. Choosing the right mix of games and competitions for your party crowd takes some planning, but engaging games will get everyone into a celebratory mood.

Bowling for Pineapples

Bowling for pineapples requires enough space to set up at least two "bowling lanes." Set up between five and nine raw pineapples in each lane and hand the first contestants a coconut. Encourage them to bowl using the coconut. Keep score to see which bowling team scores the most points, and use the pineapples and coconut later in a fruit salad if they aren't too bruised.

Stringing Leis

For a quiet party where you are looking forward socializing with guests, set everyone to stringing leis or flower garlands for themselves. Use large needles and dental floss to string the leis, and provide a load of flowers, such as carnations, daisies or plumerias. This is a quieter activity that relaxes guests and ensures they will go home with a beautiful, fragrant garland of flowers.

Hula Contest

Gather several hula hoops and get your guests to give them a spin. Offer awards for the guest who can spin his hoop the longest, for the guest who can move the hoop up and down his body and for the guest who can easily jump rope using the hula hoop. If you do not need the hula hoops after the party, offer them to the winners for prizes.

Limbo

Limbo competitions help warm up a party. You need a long stick or dowel held horizontally between two people. Guests line up and start to walk underneath the stick, bending backwards rather than forwards. They are out if they touch the stick, which is lowered every time the entire line makes it through. Play Hawaiian music while this activity is going to keep the energy up, and encourage guests to clap along to the music.

Hawaiian Knots

Divide guests into groups of five or six and have them stand in circles. The guests close their eyes and reach out to grab hands with each other. This entangles their arms into a knot. When they open their eyes, tell them to untangle themselves without letting go of each other's hands. The first group to undo this knot wins a prize.
