Create A Holiday Party Flyer

With clip art, even a black and white party flyer is an eye-catcher.

Planning a holiday party is as easy as putting up a few simple flyers around the office or emailing friends and family. Eye-catching flyers advertising the holiday potluck are easily made on the computer. With your basic word processing program, like Microsoft Works or Word, you can quickly put together a flyer with all the important information: event name, when, where and whom to contact for more information. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Open your Word program. Set the page to "Page View." Simply click on the tiny icon at the bottom left corner of the screen above "Start." Set the page margins by going to "File," then "Page Layout." Change the margins to ".5" on all four sides--top, bottom, left and right. Click "OK."

2. Right click on the toolbar at the top of the page. Select the "Drawing" toolbar. This will show the options you need to design your flyer.

3. Click on "Insert," then "Picture." Select "Clip Art." Search for a holiday graphic. Type the holiday name, like "Thanksgiving," into the box. Also select "Clip Art" and then click "Go." Choose appropriate clip art by scrolling through the choices and clicking on the one you like best. One large clip art is usually better than a series of small mismatched images.

4. Format the picture. Simply place the cursor over it and right click. Choose "Format Picture." Go to "Layout," then "Advanced." Select "Tight" for the wrapping style. Then click on "OK." Move the image to the bottom of the page.

5. Click on "Tools," then "WordArt." In the "Edit WordArt Text" box, type the name of your event. You can also change the typeface, or font, at this time. The default font is Impact. Click "OK." If you later decide you do not like this font, simply double click on the WordArt and the edit box will pop up, allowing you to make changes. You can also right click on the WordArt and select "Edit Text." Change the layout by right clicking on the WordArt and choosing "Format WordArt."

6. Enlarge the WordArt to extend from margin to margin. Click on the WordArt once to reveal the formatting box. At this point, you can change the colors, shape, letter spacing, outline and shadow by selecting the appropriate icon.

7. Add a text box for the party information. Click on the text box icon or "Insert," then "Text box." Type the information into the box: Date, Time, Location and Contact Person with a phone number or email address.

8. Adjust the sizes and colors of the WordArt, text and clip art. When everything fits on one page, save and print onto card stock or vellum bristol. Generally, colors print better on the heavier paper.
