Create a water effect on the background of your scrapbook page if you are documenting life events having to do with the beach, swimming lessons, going on a cruise or spending a family vacation at a lake. While it is possible to purchase scrapbook pages that already have a water effect applied to them, it is also quite simple and inexpensive to create your own water effect using blank scrapbook pages, tissue paper and diluted white glue.
Instructions
1. Unfold four sheets of light blue tissue paper and four sheets of dark blue tissue paper so that they are lying flat on your table or work surface. Beginning with whichever shade of blue you prefer, trace the outline of your scrapbook page onto each individual sheet of dark and light blue tissue paper.
2. Cut out the page outlines from the two colors of tissue paper. You will have eight pieces of tissue paper the size of your blank scrapbook page.
3. Draw wavy lines that are about 1 inch thick and extend the width or length of the tissue paper and then cut them out with your scissors.
4. Dilute your glue slightly with water until it is about as thin as whole milk.
5. Apply a very thin layer of your thinned glue mixture to the top of your scrapbook page with your paintbrush, enough to glue one set of waves to the page. Do not apply a thick layer, as this will cause your page to curl.
6. Press one strip of the tissue paper waves onto the portion of your scrapbook page that is covered in glue mixture, carefully pressing out wrinkles as you go.
7. Apply glue mixture to the next section of your scrapbook page and apply the contrasting blue tissue paper. Continue this process all the way down the page, alternating dark blue and light blue tissue paper and overlapping the layers slightly as you go to ensure full coverage and add texture to the water effect of your page.
8. Allow your scrapbook page to dry thoroughly. Trim any excess tissue paper around the edges and holes of the page and then apply an even layer of glue mixture over the entire scrapbook page. Once the glue mixture dries, your water effect will be complete and your page will be ready for use.
