Make A Grass Dance Outfit

This woven skirt is an advanced version of a grass dance outfit.

Whether you need to make a dance outfit for a character representing grass or you just want to create a new belly dance concept, a grass dance outfit isn't hard to assemble and the results will be dramatic. Made from a grass skirt and grass adorned bikini top, this grass dance outfit is simple yet complete. If you use real grass, collecting the grass can be a fun project in itself. However, an artificial grass outfit will be able to withstand more wear and tear.

Instructions

Dance Skirt

1. Collect tall grass from a field. Make sure it is not so dry that it is crumbly. Raffia grass is a traditional choice. Alternatively, you can use artificial grass from a craft store, either made of paper or plastic.

2. Find a thick brown or green ribbon that will match your grass. Cut the ribbon long enough so that it can tie around your waist comfortably with a bow.

3. Lay the ribbon out flat and spread glue on one side of the ribbon.

4. Press one end of the grass firmly to the glue, so that it falls away from the ribbon perpendicularly.

5. Once the glue has dried, sew the grass to the ribbon for extra security, either by hand or machine.

Bikini Top

6. Find a brown or green bikini top, the same color as your grasses.

7. Run a line of glue along the top of the bikini cups and press one end of the grasses onto the glue so that the grass will hang vertically down when the bikini top is worn.

8. Repeat the last step but with the back strap of the bikini.

9. Sew the grasses firmly in place on the bikini top, either by hand or by machine.
