Beds may remain in the same room and the same position for years, if not decades. However, the time may come when you need to replace or move the bed. Bed frames are generally made out of either metal or wood. Wood bed frames often have a wooden headboard and a wooden footboard. These components are connected to the frame itself either by bolts or by screws. In order to take apart the entire bed, these bolts or screws must be removed without damaging the wood itself. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Remove the sheets, pillows and any other coverings on the mattress. Lift off the mattress and the box spring to reveal the bed frame.
2. Remove the slats that go across the open space in the center of the frame. If the slats are held in place, remove any screws or bolts, using a Phillips-head screwdriver or Allen wrench.
3. Inspect each corner where the bed frame pieces intersect. You may need to look on all sides of each corner, as well as the inside of the frame. Locate the screws or bolts holding each corner together.
4. Use the Phillips-head screwdriver to remove any screws. Use the Allen wrench to remove any nuts. Repeat this step on each of the other three corners of the bed frame.
5. Pull the headboard and back section away from the frame. Pull the footboard section away, leaving the two long pieces. If the long side pieces are still connected to the headboard or footboard, you may need to lift each end of the side piece up and out of a groove on the head- or footboard.
6. Remove any wheels from the bottom of the bed frame feet by grasping them and pulling them straight out of the bottom of the frame.
