Make A Coconut Shell Bra

Make a Coconut Shell Bra

A coconut shell bra is the perfect way to top off a Hawaiian luau costume. While coconut shell tops are not based on real Hawaiian Luau traditions, the coconut shell top has been prevalent in popular culture for years. Whether paired with a grass skirt or a Hawaiian print wrap, a coconut shell bikini looks fabulous. This no-sew project is easy to do with a few basic supplies and makes for a memorable, fun costume. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Hold the coconut over the towel in one hand with the coconut's tip pointing to the right and its three "holes" facing to the left. Use the blunt, back side of the meat cleaver to strike the middle of the coconut. If your coconut has groves, use those as guide. Continue striking with the blunt side of the cleaver, going all the way around the coconut, until the coconut splits.

2. Remove the meat of the coconut from the shell halves using a spoon.

3. Warm up the hot glue gun according to the manufacturer's instructions. Apply the glue to the inside edge of one of the coconut halves. Attach the coconut half to the bra or bikini by pressing the fabric to the shell. Try to avoid bunching the fabric. Repeat with the other shell.

4. Cut the lei so that the flowers are loose. Use the glue gun to attach the flowers to any exposed portions of the bra or bikini. Allow the glue to dry before trying on the coconut shell top.
