Learning make a hula girl cake can help enhance your party decor with an adorable edible treat. While these cakes will vary according to personal preference, they generally consist of a girl with a large hula skirt standing on top of a cake platform. A hula girl cake can be made for a variety of celebrations, including birthday parties and luau parties. This festive cake is simple to make and only requires a few simple cake decorating supplies. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Spray your cake pans generously with non-stick cooking spray or grease the bottom and sides of the pans with shortening. This will help ensure that the cake does not stick to the mold when you try to remove it for decorating. You can purchase non-stick cooking spray at your local grocery store.

2. Prepare 12 cups of cake batter according to the cake batter recipe of your choice. You will need to pour 6 cups of batter into the 8-by-2-inch cake pan and 6 cups of batter into a skirt-shaped pan. You can purchase skirt-shaped mold pans online or at a local art supply store. Some skirt-shaped pan kits come with a plastic doll on a pick that can be easily inserted into the top of the skirt.

3. Bake the cakes in a pre-heated oven according to the manufacturer's cooking directions. Your cake is finished cooking when a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.

4. Allow the cakes to cool completely prior to removing them from the molds. If you do not allow ample cooling time, the cakes will break apart during the removal process and you will need to make a new cake.

5. Place the round cake on a large plate or base of your choice. Make sure that the cake is turned upside-down so that the flat, even surface of the cake is facing up. This will create a stable base for your hula girl to sit on.

6. Spread a thin layer of icing on the round cake on all sides to seal in the crumbs and create an adhesive surface for the hula girl.

7. Assemble the two cakes by placing the wide base of the skirt cake on top of the center of the round cake.

8. Insert the doll figurine in the top of the cake skirt. If you used a skirt mold pan kit, follow the manufacturer's directions to attach the doll pick to the cake. If you used another method to create the hula girl cake, you can wrap the bottom half of a doll in plastic wrap and insert it into the top of the cake.

9. Frost the hula girl cake and cake base according to your preferences. You can use green icing for the skirt and pipe pink flowers or beads on the skirt and doll with your cake decorating bag and tips. Feel free to add icing petals or a necklace to your cake to match your party theme.

10. Allow the icing on the cake to dry prior to serving and enjoy.
