Make a Planter's Punch Cocktail
Planter's Punch is a classic cocktail that is credited to a bartender at the Planter's Hotel in St. Louis, Missouri in 1904. However, the drink did not catch on until the recipe was published in a 1908 edition of the New York Times. While Planter's Punch cocktails may not be as popular today as they were in the early 20th Century, it is still a fine drink that deserves to be tried. This recipe makes two drinks. Instructions
1. Fill a cocktail shaker half-full with fresh ice cubes. Add the dark rum, grenadine syrup, sour mix and orange juice to the shaker.
2. Cover the shaker with its top and shake vigorously for 20 to 25 seconds.
3. Strain the Planter's Punch cocktails into two short cocktail glasses half-filled with fresh ice cubes.
4. Fill the glass with an equal mixture of sour mix and orange juice. Stir the cocktail with a glass stirrer and garnish with lemon slices. Serve immediately before the ice melts.
