Make A Pirate Birthday Cake

Along with pirate games and decorations, you need a birthday cake to match the theme of your party. Follow these steps to take your guests on an island treasure hunt while they enjoy a pirate birthday cake at the same time. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Make the island. Place your cake on a large cutting board. Cut a wavy coastline along the cake's edge. You can use the cut pieces to add height to your island by placing them on top of the main cake. Put frosting between the cake and the pieces to secure.

2. Bury the treasure. The treasure can be anything from candy to gold coins. Cut a hole in the cake and remove the piece. Put your treasure in the hole. Cover the treasure with the piece of cake. If you want a completely flat surface you need to cut the piece to size before replacing it.

3. Ice the cake. The beach needs to be iced with white or brown frosting. Other parts of the island can be frosted using different colors depending on the look you are trying to achieve.

4. Make sand. Crush the vanilla cookies into near powder-like consistency. Sprinkle the crushed pieces over the beach area of the birthday cake. Gently press the sand into the icing to keep it from shifting or falling off the cake.

5. Place pirate toys on the cake. Now that you have an island with buried treasure, it is time to create a pirate scene. Place figurines, treasure chests or other pirate accessories on top of the cake.

6. Add water. Cut the blue gelatin into small pieces and set them around the birthday cake. For choppy water use scoops of the gelatin.
