Make A Pirate Birthday Banner

A pirate birthday party is one of the most popular types of birthday parties to have since the popularity of the Disney film series of "Pirates of the Caribbean." The Disneyland ride of the same name has thrilled generations of pirate wannabes so this could also work for the birthday of an adult who still has that rebel spirit. It is also very appropriate for someone who's birthday falls on Talk Like A Pirate Day, a holiday that is celebrated annually on September 19. If the birthday celebrant loves pirates, this is the banner to make. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Give your banner a base coat of paint. Shades of ocean blue make a great foundation and can make the viewer feel reminiscent of the sea, something pirates are all too familiar with.

2. Use pirate lingo in the writing of the banner. A kid is a "Matey." Hello is "Ahoy." If you want to express surprise, exclaim "Blimey!" You could alternatively state, "Shiver Me Timbers!" Exclamations of surprise are good for effect when wishing a happy birthday to your special pirate. Exclamations are a good thing to place before "Happy Birthday!" Make sure that the color you use for printing is much darker than the background color chosen.

3. Add drawings to your banner. Choose the favorite pirate of your child for the artistic side of the banner. If there isn't a clear favorite pirate, create one that resembles your child in hair color, freckles or eye color. It needn't be an exact replica, but it should be something that reminds your child that he can be a pirate for the day. If your child loves the film or a part of the ride, pasting an enlarged photograph onto the banner can be the perfect touch.

4. Do a collage section of the banner. This can be a collection of pirate things taken from magazines, created by your own hand and found in discarded or second-hand books that can be cut up for crafts. It should embody the things that make your child love pirates.

5. Have friends and family members of the child sign the banner with a personal birthday message. This can make the banner a keepsake that the child will want to hang onto for quite some time to come. Your child may even be wanting to place it in his room for his entire birthday month.
