Make A London Fog Drink

A London Fog is a tea-based latte that has gained popularity since Starbucks started carrying it on its menu. The main ingredient of a London Fog is Earl Grey tea. According to the Tea Association of the United States, Earl Grey is technically considered a specialty tea because it contains oil of bergamot as a flavoring. A London Fog is easy to make, especially if you have an espresso machine with a steamer attachment. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Pour fresh water into a teapot and place it on the stove over medium heat. Remove the teapot when the water is steaming but not yet boiling.

2. Place one Earl Grey tea bag into a large mug and pour one cup of the hot water into the glass. Let the tea steep for three minutes, then remove the tea bag.

3. Add 1 or 2 tbsp. of sweetened vanilla syrup. Add more syrup if you like a very sweet drink--some tea drinkers prefer to use up to 3 or 4 tbsp. of syrup. Torani and DaVinci Gourmet brands both make a sweetened vanilla syrup.

4. Steam a 1/2 cup of cold milk using the steam attachment on a espresso machine until it is steaming and frothy. Whole milk will develop a better froth than skim or reduced-fat milk. If an espresso machine is not available, place the milk in the microwave until it is steaming and beat briskly with a whisk.

5. Pour the milk into the mug, using a spoon to hold back the froth. Stir the drink well, and then spoon three or four spoonfuls of froth onto the top of the drink. Enjoy while hot.
