Make A Pineapple Costume

A pineapple-themed costume can be very creative and unique.

The more unique the Halloween costume, the better. A pineapple costume is a great example of a unique and fun idea and one that you can be very creative when designing and building. One of the difficulties in making a pineapple costume is dealing with the awkward size and shape of a large, round pineapple. The first and most important part of this costume is creating the body of the pineapple.

Instructions

1. Tie two elastic bands or lengths of string around the hula hoop, one for each shoulder. These should be long enough so that when draped over the shoulder and tied to the front and back of the hula hoop, the hoop rests at roughly waist level.

2. Cut a piece of yellow fabric long enough to reach from your neck to the hula hoop, and allow for room to wrap the fabric around the hula hoop one time.

It is important that you leave enough slack for the fabric so that the elastic bands or string holds the majority of the weight from the hula hoop, otherwise the fabric will be pulled too far down your shoulders by the weight of the hula hoop.

3. Decorate this fabric by drawing brown "X"s on it, spaced equally apart. This will give the impression of the brown spines seen on the skin of a pineapple.

4. Wrap the bottom of the fabric around the hula hoop and fasten it in place with safety pins. Have a friend help you cut holes for your head and arms.

5. Draw a leaf design into on sheet of green construction paper to create the leaves. The leaves of a pineapple are long and thin. Cut roughly 10 to 20 leaves out of the construction paper.

6. Attach the leaves to the neck of the body section using fabric glue. Make sure you attach them in such a way that they will not be uncomfortably in your face while you wear the costume.

7. Put the entire costume together. Once the glue from Step 3 has dried, put on the long-sleeved green turtleneck and the green pants over the turtleneck. Have a friend help you put on the body portion constructed in Step 1.
