Make A Muslin Snowman Decoration

Make a Muslin Snowman Decoration

A muslin snowman decoration is simple to craft. Create it as a club project for a fundraiser and sell it for Christmas. If the steps are completed in an assembly line fashion, with many hands helping, several muslin snowman decorations can be made in a very short time. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Draw a 13-inch wide by 5-inch tall rectangle on the lightweight cardboard. Draw a 5-inch wide by 2-inch tall rectangle centered on top of the first rectangle. Leaving the bottom 13-inch edge alone, round the inner and outer corners of the cardboard pattern, creating the muslin snowman shoulders and head.

2. Fold the muslin creating two layers. Lay the cardboard pattern on top of the muslin and draw around it. Pin the snowman pieces together and cut out.

3. Sew around the muslin snowman using a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Leave a 3-inch opening on the bottom edge of the snowman. Clip the curves and turn right side out. Stuff the snowman firmly and stitch the opening closed.

4. Apply orange acrylic paint to both sides of the wood tear drop and wipe off with a paper towel.

5. Add blush to the muslin snowman decoration's cheeks. Center and glue the tear drop nose to the snowman's face and glue the small black button eyes above the nose using the craft glue. Allow the glue to dry.

6. Cut a 2-inch wide by 22-inch long piece of plaid fabric. Tie loosely around the muslin snowman's neck for the scarf. Trim the ends as needed. Apply a small amount of craft glue under the back of the scarf to prevent it from slipping off.

7. Cut a section of wired pine garland 18-inches long using the wire cutters. Twist the ends together creating a circle. Form the circle into a narrow oblong pine bed.

8. Apply hot glue to the bottom of the muslin snowman and set it in the middle of the pine bed.

9. Spray the muslin snowman decoration with the spray adhesive and sprinkle with the fake snowflakes. Allow to dry.
