Make A Hula Skirt For Kids

Hula skirts are the perfect party favor for a luau and are also the quintessential item of clothing for a hula or Hawaiian costume. While costume hula skirts are easy to find in stores, especially during the summer, they can often be expensive. In addition to this, store bought hula skirts are not always made in different sizes, so they can't be guaranteed to fit every child. Fortunately, hula grass skirts are so easy to make that even the kids can get in on the fun. With a lot of raffia and some embellishments, anybody can easily make a costume hula grass skirt.

Instructions

1. Cut a piece of raffia that is 12 inches longer than the circumference of the child's waist. This will form the waistband of the skirt.

2. Cut 75 pieces of raffia that are each long enough to reach from the child's waist to her ankles. Tie one end of each of these raffia pieces all across the waistband piece, leaving six inches free on each side of the waistband.

3. Hot glue artificial flowers to the waistband of the skirt, again leaving six inches free on each side. Tie the skirt around the waist using the free ends of the waistband.
