Add brick walls and a briquette grill to a fire pit.
Design a BBQ pit with your cooking style and needs in mind. Rather than building a pit into the ground, build up a brick BBQ so you can stand upright while working for a certain span of time. If you are camping out at a regular spot --- such as a hunting lease --- and you like to cook your meals over a campfire, then build something closer to the ground for easy access while sitting around the campfire. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Lay out your design on paper first for your brick BBQ pit. If you're building a permanent cooker in your back yard, then make sure your design fits properly in the chosen area. Lay out the brick outline first, then pour sand over dirt within the outline.
2. Begin building your brick sides. Arrange bricks in a circular fashion and make sure they are almost touching. After arranging the first layer, stack the next layer. The second layer should be staggered to overlap bricks in the first layer. Continue until you have reached a desired height.
3. Put stones in the base of your BBQ pit, then add firewood. If you plan on cooking immediately, light the firewood and let it burn until red and glowing. Place your grill grate on top of the BBQ pit and begin barbecuing.
