Make A Clear Vinyl Tablecloth

Protect your table from messes with a vinyl tablecloth.

With all the messes that come with small children and outdoor parties, buying an elegant tablecloth can feel like a waste. Instead of constantly washing your nice linens -- or avoiding using them at all -- cover them with a clear vinyl tablecloth. You can wipe the vinyl clean after each use, keeping the fancy fabric underneath fresh and untouched. Simple tablecloths are easy to make and require only minimal sewing experience. You can complete your transparent table protector in less than an hour.

Instructions

1. Measure the length and width of your table. Add 10 inches to each dimension to create the tablecloth's overhang. If you are covering a specific tablecloth, measure it instead.

2. Cut a piece of clear vinyl to the desired dimensions.

3. Decorate the vinyl tablecloth by hemming it with rickrack or double fold bias tape, if you wish. Vinyl does not require a hem, so any edging you do is purely aesthetic. Sew through the rickrack or bias tape to make the vinyl easier on your machine.
