Host A Retirement Luncheon

After being a member of the workforce for many years, retiring is a milestone that warrants a celebration. If someone in your family, a friend or coworker has announced their retirement, you might consider planning a party to honor them and mark the start of their retirement. Many people choose to host a luncheon to celebrate the retiree's working years and let him know that all of their hard work was greatly appreciated. You can plan a retirement luncheon in just a few weeks so your guest of honor can begin his retirement at a celebration dedicated especially to him.

Instructions

1. Decide the date for your retirement luncheon. Most people choose to hold the party on the retiree's last official day of work, but it is okay to host the party before or after the actual retirement date. Make sure to pick a date that works for the retiree and any important guests that need to attend, such as supervisors or family.

2. Pick the location of the luncheon. You can host the party at your home, office or choose to reserve space at a restaurant. If you are going to use a restaurant or another business, call them to make your reservation.

3. Invite the retiree's coworkers, friends and family to the luncheon and make sure to include pertinent information such as the date and time. Ask the attendees to RSVP to you by a certain date, usually about a week before the party will suffice.

4. Choose what foods and beverages you will serve at your luncheon. If you are hosting the party at home or at the office, you can either prepare lunch yourself or have the event catered. Make sure to provide a variety of foods to satisfy all of your guests. If the retiree has a favorite food or beverage, make sure to have plenty available at the party.

5. Consider buying a cake. Since retiring is a celebration, many people enjoy eating cake to commemorate the occasion. You can order a large sheet cake and have "Happy Retirement" written on it, or get more creative and serve a specialty cake, such as a cake-shaped like golf clubs or fishing reels.

6. Ask your attendees if they want to contribute to a gift for the retiree. You can purchase a plaque to thank the retiree for all of their hard work, gift cards to restaurants or books about the retiree's favorite hobbies.

7. Buy a guest book for attendees to sign at the luncheon to thank the retiree and give them warm wishes for their future; don't forget to provide pens.

8. Buy or make a small keepsake for each guest to take home after the luncheon. A small memento like a picture or magnet to remember the retiree is a nice touch.

9. Play soft music during the luncheon or consider playing a slide show montage of pictures of the retiree throughout the years. Decorating with pictures of the guest of honor is a great way to remember their working years and also serves as the perfect conversation starter.
