Make A Dollar Lei

Make a creative money lei instead of handing cash to the recipient.

Hawaiian money leis are similar to a money tree, and can be used as gifts for a wedding or birthday. You can add as much money to the lei as you like and decorate it as creatively as you wish, according to the occasion. It's not difficult to make and it can really be a surprising conversation piece for the recipient. If definitely beats folding bills and putting them into a greeting card.

Instructions

1. Measure a length of ribbon to see how long you want the lei to be. Hold it around your neck to see how you want the lei to look. Cut the ribbon you need for the lei and set it aside.

2. Fold each bill back and forth, in accordion pleats until the bill is completely folded.

3. Tie a piece of ribbon around the center of the folded bill to hold it in place. Make sure the ribbon is long enough that there is about an inch of room on each side of the ribbon after you have tied the bill in place.

4. Unfold each side of the folded bill until the bill resembles a bow tie shape with the tied ribbon in the center.

5. Tie the bill around the ribbon you are using for the lei. Continue this until you have added all of your bills to the lei.

6. Use beads as spacers between each bill, or you can use colored paper to fill the lei out if you are not using a lot of bills to make the lei.

7. Tie each side of the ribbon lei together in a knot, making sure it can comfortably be slipped over your head.
