Have A Wedding In Hawaii

Exchange wedding vows on one of the romantic spots on Earth.

The state of Hawaii welcomes visitors and residents alike to tie the knot on its shores, presenting them with a straightforward application process. Though the state does not require a blood test or impose a waiting period, there are still a few things to keep in mind when planning a wedding in Hawaii. As with any destination wedding, engaged couples must remember to keep their planning localized, as bringing in vendors and service from outside the islands will make the price of the wedding skyrocket, and assist their guests in finding accommodations to ensure that no one is left out.

Instructions

1. Book a venue. If you do not live in the area where you intend to marry, take a pre-wedding jaunt to the islands to scope out venue locations. Venue rentals are expensive, especially during peak wedding season, so avoid taking a gamble by booking a venue without seeing it first. Alternatively, you may wish to hire a wedding planner to sort out such details for you if you cannot make a trip.

2. Arrange for local decorators, caterers and florists to provide their services for your big day. Your venue's manager may provide you with a list of vendors whose services work well with them.

3. Purchase your wedding attire. Ensure that all pieces can either fit into your carry-on luggage or purchase travel insurance to cover any potential luggage loss.

4. Send out your wedding invitations at least three months in advance. Destination weddings require more of a lead-up for guests, as some may need to save money or arrange time off work to be able to attend your big day.

5. Arrange accommodation and provide travel details to your confirmed guests. Though you are not responsible for paying for your guests' travel and accommodations, it is polite to give them information regarding local hotels and the least expensive airfare so that everyone might be able to share in your special day.

6. Apply for a marriage license. Both the bride and groom must appear before a Hawaiian marriage license agent in order to do this. The application may be downloaded from the Hawaii Department of Health's website or acquired within their offices. A marriage license is issued after the application and application fee are presented to the Department of Health. The license costs $60 and must be paid in cash at the time of application. The license is good for 30 days after issue. Ensure that you have two witnesses who are willing to sign the document after the marriage ceremony concludes.

7. Hire an officiant. Wedding officiants in Hawaii must be licensed to wed by and within the state of Hawaii. If you are unsure about your officiant's credentials, ask the State Health Department to look over his documents. The department performs this service regularly to ensure that affianced couples do not need to make last-minute arrangements for an officiant. However, if such an occasion arises, the state also provides native, on-call wedding officiants.
