Decorate Light Fixtures For A Party

It's simple to decorate light fixtures for your next party.

In decorating for a party, don't neglect the lighting fixtures in your party space. Old-fashioned brass, pewter or glass fixtures can detract from the theme of your party. As soon as guests see those traditional fixtures, they'll forget that they're at a haunted house, a Hawaiian luau or a French bistro. Decorating the lighting fixtures makes every part of the room a part of the party theme. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Replace the original light bulbs in the fixtures with colored light bulbs that match your party theme. Black lights or orange bulbs are suitable for a Halloween party, while red and green bulbs are more appropriate for Christmas. Paler bulbs, in shades of pastel yellow and pink, are suitable for more mellow or laid-back events.

2. Change the position of the lights to make a spotlight. Spotlights are made of different colors and, when overlapped, create one large area of light. Swap the white light bulbs from several of your lights and angle the fixtures toward a central spot, to make your own spotlight.

3. Cover the lighting fixtures with brown paper bags. Punch out holes to make decorations in the bags before hanging them on the lights. Covering the lights with the bags lets light come through the small holes and gives a soft glow through the bags themselves.

4. Drape chiffon fabric over the lighting fixtures. Chiffon is lightweight and allows light to escape, but keeps the light diluted, oftening the harshness of your otherwise bright lights.

5. String light strands from one fixture to the next. Use lights in the same shade as your party colors, and drape the lights around and in between the fixtures. This adds some bright color to the room and tones down the look of your fixtures.
