The "Nancy Drew: Secret of the Old Clock" video game is based on the original book of the same title by Carolyn Keene. The action takes place in the original time period of Nancy Drew: the 1930s. The gameplay combines tasks for Nancy to complete in solving puzzles and riddles and in working as a telegram delivery girl to earn the money she will need to progress in the game. Each step must be followed in order for the following step to be "unlocked" so Nancy can progress in her investigation. Catching the fish, specifically, the 19-inch largemouth bass you need takes a few steps before you ever get to the pond.
Instructions
1. Play the game until Nancy's father tells her to pick up some papers at the Tubby Telegrams office. The owner of the office will offer you a job. The job gives Nancy a means to earn money she will need. It also helps fill in Nancy's map, which is incomplete. Some areas only appear on the map when she accepts the assignment to deliver telegrams to those areas. This is essential if you are going to find the additional areas to catch the fish.
2. Search for the trivet. The trivet is required for a piece of the puzzle to open the journal Nancy needs to read. She needs it to progress in the game.
3. Drive the car to Twin Elms and speak to Mrs. Sheldon. She will tell you to get bridge cards from Miss Jakowski at the Titusville Telco.
4. Speak to Miss Jakowski,who she will ask you to get some raffle tickets from Mrs. O'Shea at the orphanage. Once you get her the tickets, she will give you the bridge cards.
5. Drive to the orphanage to see Mrs. O'Shea and ask for the tickets. Mrs. O'Shea will ask you to buy five toys for the orphans. If you won the Red Pony in the golf game you played earlier, that counts as one.
6. Drive to the general store and buy four more toys. If you don't have enough money for buying the toys or the gas necessary for these trips, you will have to return to the Tubby Telegrams office and deliver enough telegrams to earn the money needed.
7. Return to the orphanage and hand Mrs. O'Shea the toys. You will learn the tickets are still at the print shop.
8. Drive to the print shop, and ask the owner for the tickets. The man at the print shop wants a 19-inch largemouth bass. He will ask what type of bait you want; choose minnows. Take his fishing pole and tackle, and leave.
9. Drive to Josiah's carriage house and consult the freshwater fish guide to locate the bass. The pond you will need to fish in is the one near the orphanage. Nancy won't know that though, until she reads the guide.
10. Cast the minnow into the grassbeds. Keep fishing and measuring your fish until you get that elusive 19-inch largemouth bass. Pay attention to the type of fish you get as, as not all fish are largemouth bass.
