Make A Logo In Gimp

Logo

Making your own logo can be cost-effective and fairly simple with a free and user-friendly graphic editing program like Gimp. Whether you are developing a logo for a small business, a local charity, an educational function, a wedding, or any other project, Gimp has near-limitless design capabilities. From the ease of a home computer, combine self-made or pre-prepared graphics with chosen text to create a personalized and polished-looking logo.

Instructions

1. Computer

Open Gimp. If you do not already have the free editor installed onto your computer, visit the program's homepage and follow the accompanying instructions to download the software, completing the necessary prompts.

2. Paper

Create a new file, selecting the image size from a prepared template or by inserting the dimensions of your choice. For a standard-sized logo you can print to fill a full page, click on "US-Letter" which will automatically select 8.5 by 11 inches with X and Y resolutions of 300 pixels per inch. Select "Okay" when done.

3. Text

Click on the "Text Tool" alphabet icon located in the main tool bar. Select the font, size and color of your choice, recognizing that these options can be adjusted later if necessary. Click in the center of the workbook and insert your desired text. Use the "Move Tool" to relocate the text's positioning as needed.

4. Save

Insert graphics or use the program's design tools to create desired effects and embellishments. You can locate explicit "Alpha to Logo" capabilities under the "Filters" category which rests on the top tool bar. Save your finished logo using a ".png" extension to preserve any transparency that exists.
